July 16, 2008Last Sunday Victoria, Amelia and I went to this Raw Foods restaurant in the East Village called Quintessence. Here is the Quintessence philosophy: Our Life Food cuisine is organic and raw. Organic foods are measurably more nutritious and gentler to the planet than conventionally grown foods. Since heating food above 118 degrees F kills off its live enzymes, we make sure that all of our menu items are low heat processed, if heated at all. Only foods that are uncooked, unprocessed and unpasteurized can provide us with the full range of vitamins, minerals and other nutritive co-factors that our bodies require. Therefore, keeping these food factors "live" or "raw" is the key to optimal nutrition. At Quintessence, our raw vegan cuisine is packed with the full range of essential nutrients and live enzymes for maximum assimilation and optimum health. By consuming pure, unadulterated food, we cleanse and purify our bodies, minds and spirits. Truly, "cleanliness is next to Godliness", and raw vegan food is the cleanest possible. Eating as nature intended helps us to reach our highest potential and our most perfect manifestation. This is why so many who eat raw vegan diets find they rarely get sick, experience greater mental clarity, and have a more positive outlook on life. Diets that are rich in live enzymes are also highly rejuvenating. So in essence, raw vegan makes you look great and feel even better. Eating altered, heat processed and artificial foods have drained much our natural healing and spiritual power, clouding our minds of their full potential. Eating uncooked vegan foods will bring us closer to nature, cleansing our bodies of destructive toxins and enabling us to once again regain the spiritual capacity of our ancestors. Eating raw treats our bodies like the temples they are. We are only interested in bringing you the best because we care. Our goal is to help you eat your way to a healthier existence and to show you just how good the raw experience can be. All right, okay, I agree it sounds like a bunch of hippie nonsense. But I swear the food was SOOOOO good. Take a look: I can't remember what this was. But it was delicious: I know you think you see a sushi scallion and creamcheese handroll, but there is no cheese, no fish....all raw veggies: This was part of the eggs benedict. No eggs, no butter, no cheese, no Canadian bacon...All raw vege's. Jocelyn & Victoria. I'm wearing Molly's crazy lady glasses from New Orleans. I thought it would be fun, but no, I just look crazy. Ha! I wish I could eat raw foods on a regular basis. BUT I can't go to the East Village everyday and get it. Maybe once a week. I guess I would get into it if it were close by. Or maybe I could learn to prepare raw foods? And have a raw food vegan kitchen? Ha! Dalton would probably leave me. Is beer considered raw? Ummmm? Wine?... XOXO, Jocelyn
July 16, 2008 10:40 PM CommentsUm, raw food diets sound as much fun as a daily root canal to me. But if you have way too much time on your hands and you are paranoid about your colon, I guess it's a nice way to keep yourself occupied and regular. I am sitting here in the Nantucket airport and my flight just got delayed AGAIN. I am never getting out of here. The one time I take Delta in the past two years and it's living up to its initials: D(on't) E(ver) L(eave) T(he) A(irport) Poor Richie. I just tried to add his MySpace memorial page as a friend. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=83196080 Now I am scared of the girl who called you a "dumb snitch" for writing about this. Do you think she will try to kill us? From now on I am arriving at the BDL by helicopter only. Good thing you have a nice big roof.
