So when I was young(er) I saved all of my money, wait no really, ALL of my money to go to the Morrissey concert at Madison Square Garden. $50 effin dollars. That was all I was worth when I was 17.
I was so excited, I went to the show, I got to my seat, I bought a beer (no one carded in NY in the old days) and I got all kinds of excited to see my hero, Morrissey, perform. Maybe, just MAYBE he would play a Smiths song. (If you do not know the Smiths, you should just stop reading this blog, like right now).
So the show started, he sang a song (that no one had ever heard of), some guy jumped on stage and hugged him, Morrissey FREAKED out and threw the mic down and walked off stage, never to return. Show Over. No refund, no nothing. Well, I never forgave him. MORRISSEY FUCKING SUCKS.

So anyway, that leads me to tonight. Went to go see Lady Sovereign perform at Studio B in Greenpoint. I am not sure what happened, the show started off quite well. She performed two songs and then she got on the Mic and started complaining about how poor she was, and how she had no money and then BAM! she walked off stage, much to the dismay of Studio B.????? and the entire crowd who showed up to see her.

Tim has something to say about this nonsense:

Lady Sovereign

Yo that was pathetic. I can't believe you'd diss youself so hard in Williamsburg. Don't you know that you had a crowd of about 500 tastemakers there just for you? I thought you were someone who mattered. How wrong I was. Go fuck yourself.

Lady, your days are numbered. You just flipped the bird to Williamsburg, the center of the universe. You're over sweety. As a matter of fact, enjoy the pictures that follow this post, cuz they are the last you will ever see. Enjoy!

Oh I know. The story is every where today. I would feel a little sorry for her if I hadn't known that she was only supposed to perform 3 songs. Anyone can pull themselves together for three songs.

Posted by: jocelyn at May 20, 2007 12:23 PM

Morrissey is playing Bakersfield in June. Bakersfield. The armpit of California. Home of rednecks and gangs and farms and whatnot. So strange.

Sorry about Sov - crummy.

Posted by: Keely at May 20, 2007 12:34 PM

she was supposed to do at least 4-5 songs.

Posted by: jd at May 21, 2007 12:00 PM

williamsburg: the center of the universe? 500 "tastemakers"? get over yourself, hipster prat.

for the record, lady sov was d.o.a. two years ago.

Posted by: robert doosh at May 21, 2007 07:35 PM

Robert--you are wrong. Since media jobs are notoriously low paying, many music journalists, bloggers, etc, live in Brooklyn and are exactly the type of people to know about and take enough interest in this show to attend. How else would such a tiny show get so much media coverage about said "breakdown?"

Posted by: Mike at May 21, 2007 10:20 PM

Robert DOUCHE, you're the littelest midget on this blog.

Posted by: Tim at May 22, 2007 09:49 AM

Brooklyn is not the center of the universe. I am. You and your 500 crapmakers will be going to hell for you're midget idol worship and egotism. Get over youself JOCE. You're just another indie hipster blogger who thinks she's the shit because you have a mac and and web address.

Go back to CT you yuppie scum.

Posted by: Punk Bitch at May 22, 2007 03:04 PM

Go back to Connecticut you yuppie elitest scum.

Posted by: Punk Bitch at May 22, 2007 03:06 PM

this is a satire blog right?

Posted by: doktor tchock at May 22, 2007 03:09 PM

Dear God,
Midget Idol worship? I think you missed the point, which was that she sucked.
And yes having a mac does make me a better person.

Doktor tchock,
Isn't it totally annoying when people spell schitt wrong on purpose?

Punk Bitch,
Yuppie? No, but my Dad is. I'll let him know that you wish his demise. elitest? Probably, can't help it. Scum? hardly.

Posted by: jocelyn at May 22, 2007 03:25 PM

You're completely full of shit. Pissy, know-nothing screeds like yours are precisely what's wrong with the internet, the blogosphere, Billyburg Center Of The Universe and every other stupid scene you may claim to represent. You have no concept of the reality of the grind for any kind of struggling artist, whether they be good, bad or indifferent. To you it's all there to be sucked up and spat out like a limited edition Jolly Rancher flavor. There is nothing between you and the people who are spoon-fed the Ashlee Simpsons of this world; people who, I'm sure, you despise. I wouldn't piss down your throat if your lungs were on fire.

Posted by: Frankie Brevity at May 22, 2007 03:41 PM

HA ahahahahahahah Frankie, that was funny. How does someone light their lungs on fire?

Posted by: jocelyn at May 22, 2007 03:46 PM

Give me a can of gas, a funnel and a Zippo, and I'll show you.

Posted by: Frankie Brevity at May 22, 2007 03:51 PM

Y'all have got way too much fuckin time on your hands, and obviously can't/don't create anything worthwhile. All you can do is flame online. How great your life must be. Show me anything you've done that's worthwhile.

Posted by: TIm at May 22, 2007 03:55 PM

My first death threat. I've arrived.

Posted by: jocelyn at May 22, 2007 04:06 PM

Christ. I can't believe you, Tim, et al. left my party on Friday to go see that wretched excuse for a concert. You would have been better served by drinking another mojito and passing out on the sofa. Although if you hadn't gone, we wouldn't have death threats and such to amuse us.

Don't worry, I'll always be there to extinguish your flaming lungs. I've got your elitist, yuppie Connecticut back, sista.

Fiona Apple, March 2000, Roseland Ballroom NYC.
Total f*cking meltdown.
It was great.
Made me like her even more.
It showed she was a real f*cked up chick and that her songs were tortured as well.
But Lady Sov is no Fiona Apple.

Posted by: Christopher at May 22, 2007 08:28 PM

willyB isnt the center of the universe she was popular before she went there im sure she will survive the hate of you "tastemakers".

Lame!

Posted by: Beano at May 23, 2007 01:11 AM

Joce, this is hysterical! Who are these people?

Posted by: Crystal at May 23, 2007 08:26 AM

Sounds like it was all planned? Pretty pathetic stunt if so...

From Wikipedia (emphasis added):

"Breakdown

***In an earlier interview this year with entertainer Mario Lafleur, Lady sovereign expressed her issues with Depression and poverty, which she indicated, may lead to a breakdown***,

a statement that in fact came to be true. While performing at Studio B in Brooklyn, NY, this week, Lady Sovereign fell apart on stage, confessing how broke and depressed she is. The crowd’s reaction was mixed; it can be heard in the audience, jeers, and support from her fans. The video can be viewed here.[1]"

Studio B is in Greenpoint, and Greenpoint ain't no Williamsburgh. Get your map right, yo!

And there's no way there were ever that night at Studio B 500 people as you said. The most would have been 300. By the time she arrived... probably only 150 were still around. You sound too optimistic.

As for Lady S., I agree with you. She was lame and disappointing.

Daniel,
I stand corrected. Studio B is in Greenpoint right on the border of williamsburg. From the angle of your pics, it seems we must of been standing right next to each other.

Crystal,
I have no idea, but clearly some of them do not have senses of humor and horrible taste in music. Well, at least it has been keeping me entertained while I am bored at work.

Beano,
BREATHE, you're gonna be ok.

D$,
Interesting, I guess...
but I don't think she is sophisticated enough to pull it off..

Posted by: jocelyn at May 23, 2007 10:00 AM

robert doosh - maybe if you made it past the seventh grade you would have learned to spell your own name

Punk Bitch - Don't you have better things to do? Like punking out your myspace page with with songs about how cool pink hair extensions are or something? Jocelyn can come back to Connecticut anytime she wants, but we certainly don't let people like you in. And don't be so hard on yuppy elitists, their taxes pay your welfare checks.

Frankie Brevity - Fortunately, most of us don't take our music advice from fetish freaks who like to pee in other people's mouths. I think there are better sites for that kind of thing than a music blog.

Frankie wins this hands down. Rest of you have to step your shit up

Posted by: Dan at May 23, 2007 11:51 PM

Sorry Dan, there wasn't a contest and no one wants to be like Frankie, unless you want to be really dumb with a perverted fetish.
